Just got an email from Lora, about how i organize my coupons, and a great idea for a post!! Thanks Lora, i love getting emails from you guys, always great suggestions, questions, tips etc!!
So, here's how i do it:
I have a binder, not a cheap one which is what i started with, a decent one, i don't know the brand of it, but has good strong rings.
I buy those card collector sheets at dollarama, and i organized it in different sections. snacks, cereal, beverages, baking, dairy, frozen foods, meat, bathroom kitchen and everything else. I keep meaning to make bathroom and kitchen their own categories, because i have a lot of those now. I keep like with like, so if i have 5 same coupons for fusion i keep them in the same place. Now when i go to LD, i stack them at home, paper clip them together and write on a post it what the value is, so i'm totally ready to go. I put those in some extra sheets at the back.
At the front of my binder, there is a huge pocket, so i put the coupons i find in the store in there to sort when i get home. It also has a calculator (which i don't use, i ballpark it, unless i need to figure something out really precise), and a smaller pocket at the front, where i transfer all the coupons i need at the checkout as i go along. At the back, there is a spot for a legal pad, bought a smaller one at dollarama and i write my list out on that. I keep track of my total roughly as i go through the store, so i never go over my budget.
People often stare at me in the store, and often i get ladies coming up to chat about it, or ask me my system or other questions about coupons. For all the bad looks i get in the checkout, i do get a lot of "good jobs" and stuff like that. Not that i'm gloating about that, it just gets weird sometimes because people can be pretty rude about it, so i really appreciate it when i get nice comments at the store. Even like how some of the tellers are really bad about taking coupons, like there's something wrong with you for using them. But I laugh inside about it, we know we are all ahead of the game. Why pay full price? Does that make you cool? Do any of us even care about that? I doubt it!! When someone tells me the price of something, and it's expensive, i am not impressed at all - but when someone tells me this should have been 49.99 and i got it for 18.99 or whatever, then i am super impressed!! Even if it's just a minor discount, better that money be in your pocket, or bank account, kids college fund, donated to charity etc!!!
