The big giveaway weekend is coming up on May 14th and 15th.
You can give away almost anything, no mattresses or hazardous items - and obviously nothing infested with bed bugs.
What does everyone think of this weekend? I thought they were cancelling it this year due to bedbugs - guess not! Probably a good idea to find out how to check items for bedbugs before bringing anything home.

Just a little tip for people out there about bed bugs. If you purchase/receive used clothes and are worried about bed bugs. As soon as you get home, throw the dry unwashed clothes into the dryer on "HOT" for 20-30 min. This will kill the bugs and the eggs. Then you can launder it normally.
Since the clothes are dry, you don't have to worry about anything delicate like wool shrinking.
This works great also for when you get home from vacation/work trip and have been sleeping in hotel rooms. You never know....

Here is another tip. For items such as mattresses and couches, check the seams for little black dots. The eggs are about the size of a grain of pepper and are usually black or brown. Bed bugs usually like to lay their eggs in the crevices of beds and couches where the seams meet. Mattresses that have had bed bugs will usually have some blood stains on them where the person has been bitten.
You can buy covers for your mattresses that have no seams on them which will discourage bed bug from laying their eggs.

I love this weekend! i go to the spring and the fall one and always find wonderful things! we've had bedbugs before so i know what to do before bringing anything into the house that might cause a problem and i've done well with that. i posted about this weekend on both of my sites i'm so into it!
